In recent years the interest in Japanese-themed model kits has exploded. A large amount of this has centred around Gundam which focuses on giant robots or Mecha. Originally starting as a Japanese TV series in the late 1970’s it has grown into a massive industry which produces a huge range of plastic model kits based on these very popular TV series which continue to be produced today.
These plastic model kits are often produced in a range of different sizes and grades to suit everyone from the novice looking to start building their first kit through to the expert looking for a complex build with a real focus on detail, and everything in between. If you are looking for a Gundam kit we stock a vast range at Hearns Hobbies.
When looking for your first Gundam kit you will generally look to start with an entry grade kit, which will be easier to put together and contain less parts. High Grade (HG) and Real Grade (RG) offer a slightly more complex build but can be suitable for a less experienced builders, these are generally !/144 scale. Master Grade (MG) will be a more detailed kit with more pieces and greater complexity so more suited to an experienced builder – these are also slightly larger at 1/100 scale. Perfect Grade (PG) is for the highly experienced kit builder who wants the challenge of a much more detailed kit and a more impressive model with the larger scale of 1/60.
Most Gundam kits are produced in their recommended colour form straight out of the box but should you look to paint or customise your kit we have a range of paints and markers which are made specifically for Gundam kits. Check out our range below.
